Gary Paulsen is a gifted writer, and Hatchet is his most famous novel. It is exciting, dramatic and filled with twists and turns right to the final page. Paulsen writes with amazing description and detail. His scenes almost jump from the page because of his expertise use of figurative language.
Last term, the class learned similes and metaphors as examples of figurative language. This term, we will be learning many more examples, including hyperbole, personification, onomatopoeia, alliteration and repetition. Once learned, the class will incorporate these writing tricks into their descriptive paragraphs that they will be writing throughout the term.
This week on Friday, May 11th, will have a half novel test on Hatchet. The testweek, we will be on comprehension questions, vocabulary words and multiple choice. I have included an empty vocabulary page (already done and reviewed in class) and the sample questions that we have been working onpreparing in class for our 'starting a fire like Brian' class. Each student has their own multiple choice questions completed and corrected.
